Custom Web Apps: Portals, Intranets Extranets
The benefits of custom web applications for portals, intranets and
extranets are well-known: browser-based thin clients cost little
to deploy, while server-based databases and application servers
are easy to update. The challenge is to create a web application
that is extremely simple to use, but very secure and easily adaptable to the
changing needs of an organization. Inter•Sight has developed
many web applications like this for our clients.

all started as specific client applications
that Inter•Sight has generalized for broader use. We have also
built hybrid CD-ROM/web applications that distribute interactive
product merchandising applications to replace printed catalogs.

Inter•Sight's Approach
Generally, Inter•Sight builds these applications using its proprietary code and
an open source Python web application server that offers a sophisticated user
roles and permission scheme, its own object-database and easy connections
to corporate SQL databases. For particularly demanding applications,
however, we may choose to migrate the application to a J2EE-compliant
Java web application server which connects to SQL databases via JDBC.
